The Nine Flags Festival Presents A Three Part Speaker Series

The annual Nine Flags Christmas Festival honors the cultures represented by the nine flags that have flown over Nacogdoches throughout its rich history and this year it pays special tribute to the Spanish flag. In honor of this year’s featured flag, the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a three part speaker series.

The speaker series will focus on the history of the Spanish in Nacogdoches. The series will begin November 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Visitors Center, 200 E. Main, with guest speaker Dr. F.E. Abernethy, who will discuss the history of all the Nine Flags. The second part will be held on November 27 at 6:00 p.m. and will be led by Dr. Morris Jackson. It will focus on the Spanish history and influence in Nacogdoches. The third installment will be held December 4 at 6:00 p.m. and will feature the El Camino Real presented by Dr. David Rex Galindo. Admission is free.

The Nine Flags Christmas Festival is a celebration of Texas history & culture and will be held Nov. 17 through Dec. 8 in Nacogdoches, located about 150 miles north of Houston via U.S. 59. Platinum sponsors of the festival include Commercial Bank of Texas, Lumberjack Lofts / Legends at SFA, metroPCS, Mike Perry Motor Company, and Walmart.
