to “Read her Heart Out”
November 12, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NACOGDOCHES —There’s only one thing Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts principal Malinda Lindsey plans to do from the first school bell to the last on Wednesday, Nov. 14 — read.
Lindsey accepted the Principal Challenge in the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program Read Your Heart Out Quest. The event promotes reading for fun during National Young Readers Week, Nov. 12-16.
One participating school will win the grand prize — 101 copies of the newest book in the Wimpy Kid series, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel.” Plus, the book’s author Jeff Kinney will autograph a copy for the principal.
Lindsey intends to set up a “living room” atmosphere outside of her TJR office, where she will spend the day immersed in good books. She also invited community members to take part in the challenge.
“It does not require reading to children,” states the invitation. “All you have to do is take a few minutes to let the students see that reading is important to you. You may sign up for a 15 or 30 minute session, and you may bring your own reading material or read the books we will have on hand.”
In 1985, Pizza Hut created the BOOK IT! National Reading Incentive Program to promote reading. Today, more than 675,000 classrooms in over 38,000 schools participate. The BOOK IT! Program is free to public, private and parochial schools. It’s designed to encourage students in grades K-6 to read more, yet flexible to enough to complement the teacher’s own reading curriculum and to fit each student’s reading level. As reading goals are met, teachers reward students with Reading Award Certificates. Then, when students bring their certificates to Pizza Hut, they receive recognition, and a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.
The BOOK IT! Program is partnering with “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid” for the 2012-13 school year. For more information, visit www.bookitprogram.com
