North Village Market, LLC, a division of Nacogdoches-based family investment group Jones Enterprises LTD, announced that construction on North Village Market began on Sept. 13, 2012.
North Village Market in Nacogdoches, Texas, is a part of a three-phase mixed-use development that will include restaurant, retail and entertainment venues. Located on the west side of North Street/US Highway 59, the center's first phase of 4,500 square feet will open in the fall of 2013, and an additional 8,000 square feet of retail space are in the plans.
N orth Village Market will be anchored by Newk’s®, an express casual dining restaurant with an emphasis on freshness and flavor. This new location is one of seven Texas locations in the 11-state Newk’s® restaurant franchise.
"We are excited to grow our local restaurant ownership family with the addition of Newk’s® in North Village Market. We believe this location is well suited for us to deliver our distinct fast-casual dining concept to area residents and visitors," stated Cassandra Stokes, who also owns Wingstop’s Nacogdoches location.
"The Nacogdoches micropolitan area is uniquely positioned to help incoming and existing retailers and brands succeed. In addition to our strong demographic profile, our local business network is bolstered by an active economic development corporation, chamber of commerce, workforce training center and world-class university," said Ed Pool, leasing manager of North Village Market. "We look forward to having this project, our merchants and the community benefit from our regional, national and international outreach."
North Village Market will offer something for all members of patron families. The development is designed to attract a diverse mix of stores, including popular children's brands; women's clothing boutiques; jewelers; and stores that offer home furnishings and gifts.
The development, designed by Nacogdoches-based architect Army Curtis, was inspired by the historical architecture in downtown Nacogdoches. Features of the project plan include a tree-lined central boulevard off of North Street leading to a round-about circling a large Texas flag; park-like benches and landscaping designed with the intent to encourage visitors to relax; and walkways lit by period-appropriate street lights.
"In addition to providing shoppers with an incredible shopping experience, the project will create a number of new retail jobs as well as many construction jobs over the next year," said Stanley Jones, construction manager for North Village Market. “Our intention is to utilize as many local contractors and service businesses as possible for the project.”
Family ownership of North Village Market property dates back to a 1941 purchase by C.S. and Christine Jones. The Jones family was raised on the property alongside cattle, horses and the family’s dairy. Long-time Nacogdoches residents may remember the annual fall barbeques held on the property for the Nacogdoches Horse Show. The Jones home burned completely a few years ago, and drought and wind destroyed most of the trees, leading to the family’s decision to develop the property.
"North Village Market will capture the unique flavor of Nacogdoches and provide a place for visitors to shop, to relax and to enjoy the surroundings," said North Village Market LLC partner Rose Ann (Jones) Pool. “We look forward to North Village Market becoming a source of pride for the community.”
