The Nacogdoches Mayors Committee on People with Disabilities is proud to announce that its 11th annual Sports Day Out will be held at the SAF Ag Pond this October 6th from 10AM to 3PM. Sports Day Out is a day of free fishing and fun for all people with disabilities and their families in the county.
“The point Behind Sports Day Out,” explains Alan Larson, Chair of the Nacogdoches Mayors Committee on People with Disabilities, “is that people with disabilities often don’t get the same opportunity for recreation as the non-disabled, so we wanted to create a day especially designed for people with disabilities and their families to enjoy. This is our 12th year doing this and we feel it’s our biggest and best yet. The theme for this year’s festival is “Keep It Reel.” Activities include:
· Fishing equipment & bait provided (no license needed)
· Games & prizes
· Flying model airplane demonstration
· Face painting
· Live music:
o Mix’n Matches 9:30 – 11:00 AM
o The Never Brothers 11:30 – 1 PM
o The Visitors 1:30 – 3 PM
The Nacogdoches Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities meets monthly to represent the interests of people with disabilities. Members include citizens and professionals with and without disabilities whose motivation is to increase the participation of people with disabilities in city life. Besides Sports Day Out, the Committee gives out an annual award for the most accessible businesses in the city, works on transportation issues, and is beginning the planning of a disability pride and culture parade.
