YOUTHBUILD OF THE PINEYWOODS (YBPW) PROGRAM OVERVIEW



The mission of YBPW is to engage low-income at-risk young people ages 18 to 24 with barriers to employment from small cities in rural Angelina and Nacogdoches counties in transforming their lives through increased education, training, and leadership opportunities that allow them to earn a living wage for themselves and their families. YBPW participants do this while simultaneously building affordable housing for local low-income families, participating in construction-related service-learning activities that connect learning with civic engagement, and developing relationships with construction-industry employers who will serve as their mentors. In this 24-month program, YBPW integrates the following six program components to ensure that participants meet both the national and YBPW program performance measures:

§  Service-Learning and Civic Engagement



§  Mentoring



§  Counseling/Case Management



 



YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM MANAGER



General Summary:



To provide direct oversight of all components of the YouthBuild of the Pineywoods (YBPW) program for young adults ages 18-24 that have barriers to employment.  To ensure that all services provided are in line with current rules, regulations, and best practices for the national YouthBuild programs. To work with staff and partners to ensure program success. To market Goodwill’s services and programs to the community.



Qualifications:



·         Master’s degree in counseling, education, human services or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.



·         Experience in counseling, alternative education, and/or youth development in a community-based setting.



·         Strong management and supervisory skills including interpersonal skills.



·         Ability to communicate in a variety of settings, including publicly, in order to articulate agency/program information.



·         Ability to build cohesive teams, inspire staff and clients, and provide Service Learning/Civic Engagement.



·         Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, client management systems, social media, and research tools.



·         Ability to meet requirements of DOT Strength Classification – Sedentary to Medium work.



 



YOUTHBUILD CONSTRUCTION MANAGER



General Summary: Responsible for the oversight, management and effective implementation of all construction training activities for the YouthBuild of the Pineywoods (YBPW) program.  Oversee a set of competencies that all YouthBuild young adults ages 18-24 are required to achieve before they graduate from the program ensuring that services comply with accepted standards and federal, state and grant requirements.



Qualifications:



·         Significant experience providing management/oversight of residential construction projects and significant skills in a variety of construction trades. College degree also preferred.



·         Strong management and supervisory skills including interpersonal skills.



·         Experience supporting at-risk youth in a learning environment preferred.



·         Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, client management systems, social media, and research tools.



·         Valid Texas Drivers License and ownership of vehicle suitable for construction work.



·         Ability to meet requirements of DOT Strength Classification – Sedentary – Heavy



 



YOUTHBUILD LEAD CASE MANAGER



General Summary:



Responsible for ensuring the integration of all service components for YouthBuild participants, including creating and maintaining a comprehensive goal plan for each young adult age 18-24  involved in the YouthBuild program and coordinating effective case management, compliant documentation, one-on-one and small group counseling, program placement, and follow-up services for each client.



Qualifications:



·         Bachelor’s degree in career counseling, psychology, sociology or related field.  Significant professional experience in a related field may be substituted for postsecondary education with at least two years experience working as a case manager preferably with a young adult and/or adjudicated population.



·         Ability to work in teams, manage service integration, and ensure compliance in service provision and documentation.



·         Ability to provide training and development to at-risk populations.



·         Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, client management systems, social media, and research tools.



·         Ability to meet requirements of DOT Strength Classification – Sedentary to Medium work.
