Banquet honors agriculture industry

The 12th annual Agriculture Appreciation and Awareness Banquet begins at 6 p.m., Monday, Apr. 2 at Banita Creek Hall.



The keynote speaker is Sheriff J.B. Smith from Smith County. He is a well-regarded humorist.



·         Farm Family of the Year:  Forrest Lee Meador Family  (Sponsor: Tipton Ford)



·         Agriculture Pioneer:  Dr. James Kroll  (Sponsor: Heritage Land Bank)



·         Agribusiness of the Year:  Bright Coop, Inc.  (Sponsor: First Bank & Trust, East Texas)



·         Agriculture Educator of the Year:  Dr. Leon Young  (Sponsor:  Citizens 1st Bank)



Nacogdoches scholarship awards will be presented at the banquet to community youth currently attending SFA or planning to attend after high school graduation with a major in the agriculture field. The scholarships are sponsored by Austin Bank, Heritage Land Bank and Mast Cattle Company.



Individual tickets for the event are $25 and table for eight is $250. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Chamber at 560-5533 or click here to download a registration form.



The agriculture banquet is a cooperative effort of local agencies that include Nacogdoches County Farm Bureau, Nacogdoches Economic Development Corp., Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Cooperative Extension Program, Pineywoods RC&D, Stephen F. Austin State University - Agriculture Department, Texas Forest Service Nacogdoches and Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce. 



In conjunction with promoting agriculture, an Ag Tour to will be conducted on Friday, Mar. 30. The tour is free, open to the public. For more tour information contact Jamie Sugg or Crispin Skinner at AgriLife Extension Service, 560-7711.
