The Nacogdoches Speaker Series will be held on May 7 with Betty Crockford on "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid: The Real Story."
May 7, 6-7 p.m., at Judy B. McDonald – Nacogdoches Public Library. Betty will acquaint the audience with a controversial subject—about which many have heard absolutely nothing prior to this—unless they are a fan of the Old West, its cowboys, its lawmen and its outlaws, especially Butch & Sundance, whom many met in the movie of the same name. It's controversial because a lot of people refused to believe that Butch and Sundance died in Bolivia and a lot of other people believed that Butch returned to tour his old outlaw haunts. Ms. Crockford will explain how she developed an interest in the “wild bunch” and the research surrounding the controversy that has lived on for over 100 years.
Betty, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business & Management from the University of Maryland European Division, and is married to Lloyd Crockford, a composites engineering consultant. She was employed as an academic research administrator at the University of California Los Angeles, Department of Neurology Seizure Disorder Center, before moving to Houston in 2000. After helping to establish the first Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at the Baylor College of Medicine, she finished her career as Interim Executive Director, Office of Research Administration, University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). She is also a member of the Sam Houston Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Galveston County Master Gardeners Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston. She also Co-Chaired the Clear Lake Association of Senior Programs speaker series at the Freeman Branch Library in Clear Lake. Betty and her husband now reside in Pearland, Texas.
All presentations are held 6-7 p.m. at the Judy B. McDonald-Nacogdoches Public Library. For more information, call the library at (936) 559-2970. Events and bio sketches of speakers are also posted on the Chamber of Commerce online calendar each month at http://www.nacogdoches.org/calendar.php.
