Plenty of indoor, air-conditioned events will offer cool comfort at the 30th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Tipton Ford-Lincoln on Saturday, June 8.
“All at the festival will enjoy the opportunity to step inside for a fun festival event and soak up some A/C,” said Festival Chair Grace Handler. “In addition to a good event experience, you’ll be recharged for the outdoor activities on the brick streets and in Festival Park, including the NASCAR racing attraction that Tipton Ford is bringing to this year’s festival.”
The festival committee members led by Handler have designed indoor event start times for the warmer times of the day. Cookin’ Up the Blues cooking demonstrations has a 1:30 p.m. show time in Commercial Bank of Texas while the Blueberry Hill Soda and Sweet Shop will be open until 3 p.m. The Pickin’ on the Square music event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in two locations, City Council Chambers in City Hall and in Regions Bank community room. All of these and more are climate controlled.
“Our logistics team member and architect Laura Culpepper is identifying and marking the ‘cool spaces’ on the festival event map,” Handler said. “Just look for the snowflake icon and you’ll know that a cool down time is there as well as entertainment.”
The cool space events include:
- Blueberry Cupcake Battle
- Cookin’ Up the Blues cooking demonstrations
- A Visit with Daisy Sutton Wettermark of “Saving the Oldest Town in Texas”
- Blueberry Hill Soda & Sweet Shop
- Pickin’ on the Square
- Paul Kendrick Memorial 42 Tournament
- Storytelling at The Cole Art Center
“Don’t forget that most of the downtown merchants are open on festival day, and many folks consider ‘shopping’ an official event!” Handler said.
A Cool Zone blue-and-white-striped tent will be set up in Festival Park with misters and fans. Cold water is available, too, around the festival grounds.
Handler added, “the Nacogdoches County Chamber and festival volunteers make keeping people safe and healthy a main priority when preparing for the Texas Blueberry Festival. Drink plenty of water, take advantage of the cool-down opportunities, and enjoy the full festival day.” ——————————————————
