Nacogdoches to be featured on RFD-TV's Special Cowboy Moments, Wild Rides
By Kelly Augustine, executive vice president at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce
The folks in Nacogdoches County can give a loud and proud "yee haw" for local families, farms, festivals, businesses and sites soon to be featured on RFD-TV shows "Special Cowboy Moments" and "Wild Rides."
"We identify communities that have the events, histories, cultures and life stories that fit our audience's interests and our mission to 'preserve rich western history for generations to share,'" said Jan Berry, RFD-TV project coordinator. "As the 'oldest town in Texas' with its unique and intriguing history and personalities, Nacogdoches will be a perfect fit for our viewers."
Speaking of viewers, "Special Cowboy Moments" with its interviews of local residents combined with photographs and videos of the town and county, and the Cowboy Channel's "Wild Rides" are broadcasted into millions of households throughout the nation. Along with the broadcasted shows, Nacogdoches will be featured on RFD-TV's website and the shows' social media sites.
Anita Scott, executive director for the Nacogdoches County Exposition & Civic Center, knew the opportunity was one to pursue when she was approached earlier this year by RFD-TV executives. "This is a wonderful opportunity to feature what that is special about living and working in Nacogdoches County," Scott said. "We believe that this program will promote Nacogdoches to America.”
C. Wayne Mitchell, president/CEO of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, attended the first meeting held on Nov. 14 at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center. The gathering included several community partners, and Berry introduced the idea of Nacogdoches being featured in the episodes to the group. She explained how the community would be highlighted. The Chamber is proud to be a part of this production,” Mitchell said. “We anticipate that this national exposure will benefit Nacogdoches County for several years.”
An expected gain from the RFD-TV broadcasts is that more attention will be generated for the March 2019 Nacogdoches County Pro Rodeo and Steer Show. The Nacogdoches episodes of "Special Cowboy Moments" and "Wild Rides" are scheduled to air before the event and could bring more people to the rodeo and most likely, more visitors to Nacogdoches throughout the year.
According to Scott, a partnership between several organizations and businesses made this program possible. “Without the support of several businesses, groups and organizations, this program would not have been possible," she said.
